AUDIO
  • Rio 30GB MP3 player with 20 band parametric equalizer.

  • Lanzar 200 watt amp

  • Kenwood bass tube (blew January 2004. A custom box is being fabricated that will encompass the Lanzar amp.)

  • Sony X-plod CDX-M630 CD/FM/XM

Future: Replace all speakers with Diamond, or X-Plode.

RioCar 30 Gig empeg (MP3) player with Sony X-plod CDX-M630 CD/FM/XM: The idea was to add XM Radio to the Mustang but I decided to let that wait based on the price of the "extras" needed for the service and the fact that I only drive 4.99 miles to work each day. This deck does have the ability to read from CD-R and CD-RW disks. It does not have the ability to read/play MP3's from disk which is fine since that is the Rio's job. (The Rio currently has approximately 6000 songs on it and it is just over half full. These are my CD's that I have put onto it directly from my computer.)

I haven't replaced the stock speakers yet since with the Rio, they are outperforming the Eclipses I had in the Jeep or even some of the best ones I've heard so far. I don't know who made these but their high end is excellent. They bottom out and distort on the bass but with the Rio's 20 band parametric equalizer, able to work on 2 or 4 channels independently or in pairs, it is easy to get just what I want out the unit. I can also save settings for a particular music type and switch to it to enhance that genre. The best part of the combo (Sony and Rio) is that when neither are on they are "generic" and do not draw too much attention. The Rio does not have a logo on the unit and the Sony logo only appears when the unit is on. Of course, the Rio does pull out for additional security. I have a small camera case by Doskocil that I use to carry it in. It has foam on the inside which I have removed to form an impression of the unit, the power cord, the USB cable, and RCA jacks.
